Adventures into the Unknown:

A Scary Night

Write a poem, using the three ideas below. You decide how long your poem should be and whether or not you want it to rhyme.

1. A long walk on a dark, rain-swept path.

2. Quiet sounds from behind a door.

3. The creak of footsteps in the hall.

Double Act:

Happi-ness

You are going to write a story, but there are two things you need to include in it. One is that there must be a lot of feelings in your story (you can choose more than one emotion). The other is that at least 4 words must end in the ‘ness’ sound. Have a go!

Story Practice:

A Woolly Jumper

Auntie Peggy has spent weeks knitting you a lovely new jumper. She knows you like colourful things, so she used every spare ball of wool she had and mixed them together. Secretly, you hate your new jumper because it makes you look like a giant sweet, but you promise to wear it every time Auntie Peggy visits.

Today Auntie Peggy is coming for her lunch. You put on the jumper and take next door’s dog for a walk. Then you spend a bit of time under your bed, looking for a game you lost. After that, next door’s dog escapes into your garden and you play chase with it.

As Auntie Peggy arrives, you look out of the window at the back garden. There is something trailing all over the grass, and on the trees. It’s something multi-coloured…

With a sinking heart, you look down at your jumper and see it is only half there. The other half has come undone and tangled round things in the back garden. Next door’s dog is looking over the fence, and even he has a bright woolly tail. With only minutes to spare before you have to face Auntie Peggy, what will you do?

Now, in your own words, write a story about what has happened so far and what will happen next. You can make this story with lots of pictures and not many words, or write it as a full story.
